, p. 789 - 791 (2007/10/02)
The powder coating of a bamboo, Lingnania chungii McClure (= Bambusa chungii) was found to be a rich source of the 3-oxo pentacyclic triterpenes (25percent on the recovery basis by chromatography on silica gel) which contained friedelin, arborinone and glutinone as the major components accompanied by minor amounts of α- and β-amyrenones.A simple procedure for isolation of the friedelin is described. All proton and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance signals for arborinone, friedelin and glutinone were assigned. Keywords Lingnania chungii; Bambusa chungii; Gramineae; arborinone; friedelin; glutinone; 1H-NMR; 13C-NMR

, p. 2369 - 2372 (2007/10/02)
Key Word Index - Elaeodendron balae; Celastraceae; D:B-friedoolean-5-ene-3β,29-diol. - A new dioxygenated D:B-friedooleanene from Elaeodendron balae root bark was shown to be D:B-friedoolean-5-ene-3β,29-diol by relating it to 29-oxygenated D:A-friedooleanane.This is the first report of angular methyl oxygenation in the D:B-friedooleananes.
