The Ethyl 2-hydroxyethyl sulfide is an organic compound with the formula C4H10OS. The IUPAC name of this chemical is 2-ethylsulfanylethanol. Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by 2-mercapto-ethanol. This reaction will need reagent caustic alkali and solvent butan-1-ol. The reaction time is 6 hours with reaction temperature of 120 °C. The yield is about 96%.



Uses of Ethyl 2-hydroxyethyl sulfide: it can be used to produce acetic acid-(2-ethylsulfanyl-ethyl ester) at temperature of 25 - 30 °C. It will need reagent Woelm-200-N alumina with reaction time of 1 hour. The yield is about 93%.
