- The synthesis of brominated heteroleptic tris-cyclometallated Ir(III)-complexes as photoactive building blocks on polyaryl backbones
-
Luminescent facial tris-cyclometallated iridium complexes of generic structure Ir(L)2(dbppy) with one 2-(4-bromophenyl)-5-bromopyridyl (dbppy) ligand {where L represents the cyclometallating ligands [2-phenylpyridyl (ppy), 2-(4,6- difluorophenyl)pyridyl] (dfppy), [1-phenylpyrazole] (ppz) or [1-(4,6-difluorophenyl)pyrazole] (dfppz)} were synthesized. The bromine substituents allow the further incorporation of the iridium complexes into a polyaryl backbone. The route starts from μ-chloro-bridged dimers L2Ir(μCl)2IrL2. Further reaction of these precursors with an excess of dbppyH at temperatures of 95–120 °C leads to the target complexes only in the case of the phenylpyridine based precursors (L = ppy and dfppy). All complexes were characterized via 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic methods. All the facial tris-cyclometallated complexes exhibited strong absorptions between 200 and 320 nm typical of a π → π? transition together with weaker MLCT absorptions below 320 nm. The emission spectra of all these luminescent Ir(III)-complexes cover the region between approximately 500 to 700 nm. This strongly supports the hypothesis that the luminescent properties are controlled mainly by the dbppy ligand. The lifetimes of the complexes are quite different relative to each other and are much shorter than their homoleptic Ir(L)3 counterparts.

-
The invention discloses an electrical stimulation response type iridium (III) coordination compound and application thereof. The electrical stimulation response type iridium (III) coordination compound is formed by modifying different sites of a benzene ring or a pyridine ring of a C^N ligand of a coordination compoundwith an ethyl pyridinium salt unit to construct a viologen ligand and introducing an electron-withdrawing amide group or an electron-donating methyl group to an N^N ligand. According to the invention, the reversible oxidation-reduction characteristic of a viologen structure is mainly utilized, the influence of an electron donating or electron withdrawing group on the electron transfer state of the complex is combined, and under external stimulation, the electron transfer state of the iridium (III) coordination compoundis changed so as to change the photophysical property of the complex, so that colorful changes of light colors visible to naked eyes can be achieved, and the coordination compoundcan be applied to information storage and encryption fields; and after an ethyl group is introduced to a nitrogen atom of a viologen structural unit, the iridium (III) coordination compoundwith the ethyl viologen ligand has good redox reversibility and chemical stability, and can have good application prospects in electrochromic devices, information storage devices and energy storage devices.

- Impacts of intramolecular B-N coordination on photoluminescence, electronic structure and electroluminescence of tetraphenylethene-based luminogens
-
N,C-Chelate four-coordinate organoborons are a new class of luminogenic materials but the impacts of intramolecular B-N coordination on the optoelectronic properties of the luminogens are not fully understood. In this work, B-N coordination is grafted onto two tetraphenylethene (TPE)-based luminogens and the thermal stabilities, optical properties and electronic structures of the generated organoborons are investigated and compared with those of counterparts without B-N coordination. Both luminogens are thermally stable and show aggregation-induced emission. The presence of B-N coordination not only improves photoluminescent property of the luminogens, affording excellent solid-state fluorescence quantum yields up to unity, but also lowers the LUMO energy levels, owing to pπ-π* conjugation. The application of both organoborons as emitters for organic light-emitting diodes is evaluated. The devices of them exhibit superior electroluminescent efficiencies to the devices of counterparts, demonstrating that B-N coordination is conducive to electroluminescent property of the luminogens.

- Synthesis and characterization of highly stable and efficient star-molecules
-
A series of well-defined star-shaped molecules have been synthesized by Pd-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling starting from very simple reactants with 1,3,5-trisubstituted benzene, 2,4,6-trisubstituted pyridine and trisubstituted phenylcarbazole as the backbones. These star-molecules are all soluble in common organic solvents and electrochemically stable with reversible cyclic voltammographs and high lying HOMOs. They exhibit excellent blue-fluorescence with quantum yield up to 0.87 and high glass transition temperatures. These molecules offer potential as pure blue-light emitting, hole-transport or host materials for optoelectronic applications.

- Carbazole and arylamine functionalized iridium complexes for efficient electro-phosphorescent light-emitting diodes
-
We report the synthesis and characterization of four cyclometalated iridium complexes based on carbazole and arylamine modified 2-phenylpyridine. The carbazole and arylamine groups are linked to 2-phenyl pyridine backbone to enhance the energy harvesting and transfer from host to guest materials. The electrochemical and photophysical properties of the complexes are studied and electroluminescent devices are fabricated. The results show that the complexes with ligands containing carbazole moieties have desirable phosphorescent properties. The device with complex 3 doped PVK (poly (vinylcarbazole)) as emission layer achieves maximum luminous efficiency of 6.56 cd A-1 and maximum brightness of 14448 cd m-2.
