The invention discloses a novel method for synthesizing cis-trans mixed 4-(4'-alkylcyclohexyl)cyclohexanol by taking biphenyl as a starting raw material through five steps of reactions including Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction, Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction, reduction reaction, oxidation reaction and catalytic hydrogenation. The method is mild in reaction condition, good in selectivity, high in yield, convenient to operate, environmentally friendly and suitable for industrial production.

An organic compound represented by general formula (G1) is provided, or a novel liquid crystal composition containing the organic compound is provided. In general formula (G1), Ar^1 and Ar^2 separately and independently represent substituted or unsubstituted arylene groups having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkylene groups having 3 to 12 carbon atoms, or substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkenylene groups having 3 to 12 carbon atoms. In addition, m and n separately and independently represent 0 or 1. R^1 and R^2 separately and independently represent hydrogen atoms, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl groups having 1 to 11 carbon atoms, or substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy groups having 1 to 11 carbon atoms.
