- Synthesis of Schiff bases derived from 3-hydroxy-2-naphtoic acid hydrazide and study of their complexes with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)
-
The complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) with some new Schiff bases have been synthesized and characterized by chemical analysis and by magnetic and spectral measurements. The Schiff bases are derived from 3-hydroxy-2-naphtoic acid hydrazide and each of benzoylacetone, acetylacetone, ethyl acetoacetate, α-picolyl-phenyl-ketone and isatine. Two series of complexes have been obtained with the ethyl acetoacetate derivative due to variable condensation sites of the β-carbonyl ester.Generally, Cu(II) and Zn(II) have a great tendency to form molecular associated complexes with the divalent tridentate ligand anion while Co(II) and Ni(II) prefer bonding with the monovalent anion to give monomeric compounds.
