2,4-Diamino-5-arylazo-6-(substituted amino)pyrimidines as Possible Folic Acid Antagonists
The title compounds 5-arylazopyrimidines (I-XXV) have been prepared by coupling 2,4-diamino-6-(substituted amino)pyrimidines with diazotised arylamines. These compounds inhibit the growth of Streptococcus faecalis and act as folic acid antagonists. The growth inhibition has been compared with that produced by the parent compounds and some well known antibiotics.Structure activity relationship has also been discussed.
