Tetrabromobisphenol A-bis (2-methyl)allyl ether is used as a raw material, the methyl octabromoether is prepared under a catalytic system of N-bromosuccinimide (NBS), an auxiliary agent and a catalyst, the yield is greater than or equal to 98.6%, and the purity is greater than or equal to 99.0%. The preparation method is a method for synthesizing the methyl octabromoether, wherein the method is simple and convenient to operate and high in selectivity, bromine does not need to be used as an initial raw material, and the process safety is better; and the product yield is high, and the product quality is good.

- Preparation method of high-purity methyl octabromoether

The invention provides a preparation method of high-purity methyl octabromoether, which comprises the following steps of: (1) adding tetrabromobisphenol A and caustic soda flakes into a solvent A, stirring until the tetrabromobisphenol A and the caustic soda flakes are completely dissolved, adding a high-efficiency catalyst A, dropwise adding methyl chloropropene for reaction, and filtering after the reaction is completed to obtain an intermediate product methyl tetrabromoether; (2) adding the methyl tetrabromoether prepared in the step (1) into a solvent B, stirring for dissolving, washing and separating water after the materials are completely dissolved, adding a high-efficiency catalyst B, and dropwise adding liquid bromine to obtain a solution containing methyl octabromoether; and (3) neutralizing the solution containing methyl octabromoether with a sodium sulfite solution, washing with water, separating water, distilling, crystallizing, filtering and drying to obtain the methyl octabromoether. The purity of the prepared methyl octabromoether is improved to 98% or above, and the methyl octabromoether can be added to prepare XPS flame-retardant master batch with a high flame-retardant effect and has a better application prospect.

A high-purity bromine compound which is useful as flame retardant, can be obtained industrially advantageously by a process comprising reacting bromine with an aliphatically unsaturated compound of formula (1) : R1-O-Ar1-Y-Ar2-O-R2to produce a bromine compound of formula (2): R3-O-Ar1-Y-Ar2-O-R4wherein in each formula Ar1and Ar2are independently a C5-16aromatic hydrocarbon or a C5-12saturated alicyclic hydrocarbon, and Y is a C1-6saturated hydrocarbon, a sulfone, sulfide, ketone or C2-6alkylene oxide or is a single bond; R1and R2are each independently a C2-11hydrocarbon group which is at least partially unsaturated; and R3and R4are groups obtained by saturating with a bromine atom the unsaturated groups of R1and R2respectively, wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of a solvent which is inactive in the reaction, and a substantial amount (e.g. 80% or more) of reaction heat is removed from the reaction system by the vaporization heat of the solvent or bromine.
