The health of babies always arouses the attention of many people. Recently, an environmental scientist at King's College London has argued that home is the most dangerous place for babies. He has pointed out that there are poisonous materials everywhere at home. In general, he has listed seven dangerous commodities. 

The first commodity is air freshener. Many people like to use air fresheners at home in order to make their houses fragrant. Unfortunately, air fresheners do harms to people. A chemical called phenol in the air fresheners would make health in danger. When this chemical enters the human body, people would feel headache and have troubles in breath. Sometimes, tears come out when the chemical stimulates the eyes. If babies touch this chemical, their skin would become dry. Therefore, experts suggest people not to use such fresheners. If people want to make the air fresh, they can put some grapefruit or plants indoors.

The second commodity is bleacher. Many families use it to clean the house or wash clothes. But it is rather dangerous. As we know, most bleachers on the market contain sodium hypochlorite, which is of strong causticity. When it releases, it would produce poisonous gas at the same time. The lung can the hair would immediately get hurt. Therefore, babies should keep away from bleachers. If parents need to wash the clothes of babies, they are advised to use lemons.

The third category of commodity is the electronic appliances. Many electronic appliances, such as televisions and computers, contain bromine flame retardants. When the retardants release into the air and is inbreathed by babies, they would not come out or be decompounded. The use of such retardants is not allowed in European countries now.

ic jewelry is also dangerous for babies. Many parents, especially parents from eastern countries like Japan and China, like to let their babies wear jewelry. But experts say that jewelry would hurt the skin of babies and sometimes would be swallowed by mistake. Moreover, nickelic jewelry would even cause skin diseases.

Besides, plastic toys can be harmful. Toys are best friends of babies. Plastic toys are inexpensive and firm. But a study carried out in America has indicated that phthalate in plastics would lead to abnormality of organs. So parents are suggested to choose wooden toys for their babies.

Another dangerous commodity is shoeshine. Many people would argue that shoeshine is not directly related to babies. But we have to notice that the danger gets close to babies through the central nerves. The nitrobenzene in shoeshine would damage the central nerve system and cause severe headaches. Sometimes, babies would seem to be additive to sleeping. If parents need to clean or make little shoes shiny, they can wipe shoes with olive oil and then drop some lemon juice.

The last commodity is bed sheet. The formaldehyde in materials would stimulate the skin and immature organs. Therefore, cotton sheets should be used for babies.
