  • Complementary Feeding For Babies at Tooth Growing Period
  • Babies start to grow teeth from the age of four months to the age of ten months. When they are one year old, six to eight teeth can be found in their mouths. And as early as they are two years old, there would be 20 teeth. During the tooth growing period, complementary feeding becomes very important. Experts suggest parents to provide their babies with adequate essential nutrition, such as vitamins, dietary fibers and .

First of all, dietary fibers play an important role in tooth growth. Dietary fibers widely exist in vegetables and coarse food grain. They are beneficial to the cleanness of the teeth and massage the gum effectively. In consequence, they strengthen the resisting ability of teeth and peridentium. Dentists suggest babies to eat some soybeans and dasheens frequently. Such foods are rich in phosphor, which promotes the normal growth of teeth and prevents teeth from being decayed. Moreover, they require so much chewing that saliva production is more than usual. Abundant saliva is a useful protector of teeth.

In order to keep the mouth clean, babies should eat sugar as less as they can. Sweet food, such as candy and cake, is the opponent of teeth. It is rather easy to hide in teeth and attracts bacteria. In consequence, sugar would be decomposed and converted into acidic substances, which would probably decay teeth. Dentists point out carbohydrates should be ingested in a scientific way. Babies are not allowed to eat sugar or sweet food before sleeping or after brushing teeth. After eating apples or candies, they should gargle or brush teeth. They are also not suggested to eat too hot food or too cold food. High temperatures or low temperatures would change the condition of mouth and bring damages to immature teeth.

A healthy and balanced diet is important for babies at the tooth growing period. Calcium is an indispensable component of teeth. Adequate calcium is able to strengthen teeth. Therefore, babies are advised to eat more diary food and bean products at this period. Parents can add some vinegar when they cook food that has high calcium content. As we know, vinegar helps the decomposition of calcium and accelerates its absorption. Similarly, fruit with rich citric acid, such as lemon, orange and plums are helpful with calcium absorption. In addition to calcium, phosphor is also an essential mineral for babies. Phosphor widely exists in food. As long as babies are not picky in eating, they can ingest adequate phosphor. can promote the absorption of phosphor and help it strengthen the bones and teeth. Besides, vitamin C can prevent babies from tooth diseases. However, the human body can not produce adequate vitamin C. Babies should eat vegetables and fruit to ingest enough vitamin C every day to protect their teeth.
