  • Expectant Mothers Should Not Eat Salted Duck Eggs
  • It is very common for people to eat salted duck eggs in the morning. Some people may want to know that why duck eggs must be salted to eat and what kinds of nutrients are contained in salted duck eggs. In fact, the fishy smell of duck eggs is very strong, and it can be removed if duck eggs are salted. Salted duck eggs have rather high nutritional value with abundant nutrients like fat, protein, amino acid, calcium, iron, vitamins and many other kinds of trace elements. These nutrients are also easy for the human body to absorb.

According to the traditional Chinese medicine, the effect of eliminating the internal heat of salted duck eggs is more obvious than that of unsalted ones. In addition, boiled salted duck eggs can also treat diarrhea. The oil in salted duck eggs can be used to protect the eyes.

Although the advantages of salted duck eggs are diverse, pregnant women should not eat salted duck eggs. Salted duck eggs can seriously cause edema for pregnant women. During the pregnancy, the amount of estrogen inside the bodies of expectant mothers can be increased. Estrogen can accumulate too much water and salt inside the body. Improper diet can easily cause edema. Each salted duck egg contains nearly more than 10 grams of salt, but the demand of salt needed by the human body each day is about 5 to 8 grams. It can be seen that the content of salt contained in salted duck eggs has exceeded the demand of salt of a pregnant woman each day. Except salted duck eggs, many other kinds of foods containing salt must be eaten by pregnant women each day, which can make the absorption amount of salt extremely exceed the normal standard. Too much salt inside the body can make people feel thirsty, so pregnant women have to drink much water. Too much water and salt are accumulated in the body, which can increase the burden of kidney and further cause edema. Many other salted foods can also endanger the health of expectant mothers, such as salted fish and bacon. Pregnant should avoid all the salted foods during the pregnancy.

Salted duck eggs indeed contain abundant essential nutrients like iron and protein needed by the human body. However, because of too much salt contained in salted duck eggs, expectant mothers should avoid eating them so as to prevent edema.
