Specification

Chromium nitrate, with the CAS registry number 13548-38-4, has the IUPAC name Chromium(III) nitrate. It is a blue-violet crystals which is very soluble in water and soluble in acids, bases, alchol and acetone. This chemical is an inorganic compound with the formula Cr(NO3)3 that will decompose at 100 °C. This chemical is stable at room temperature, but may explode if heated. Chromium nitrate is incompatible with organic materials and reducing agents. Its EINECS registry number is 236-921-1. Aqueous solution is green when heated but turn to reddish violet when cooled down.

Preparation: Chromium trioxide is restored by cane sugar in the presence of hydrogen nitrate and then is filtered. The filtrate is evaporated and concentrated. Finally, you can gain the Chromium nitrate after cooling crystallization and centrifugal separation.

16 CrO3 + 48 HNO3 + 9 H2O + C12H22O11 → 16 Cr(NO3)3.9H2O + 35 H2O + [O] + CO2

Uses: Chromium nitrate is used in the production of alkali metal-free catalysts and in pickling. In addition, it is also used in manufacture of glass, for ceramic underglaze, corrosion inhibitor and mordant in printing.

When you are using Chromium nitrate, you should be veru cautious about it. The substance is oxidising and irritant. When you contact with combustible material may cause fire. It is irritating to eyes and skin. In addition, you should keep it away from combustible material. In case of contact with eyes, you should rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Whenever you will contact it, you need wear suitable protective clothing.
