Cobalt oxide (Co2O3) Specification

The Cobalt(III) oxide, with the CAS registry number 1308-04-9 and EINECS registry number 215-157-2, has the systematic name of oxo-(oxocobaltiooxy)cobalt. And the molecular formula of this chemical is Co2O3. Although only two oxides of cobalt are well characterized, CoO and Co3O4, procedures claiming to give Co2O3 have been described.

The physical properties of Cobalt(III) oxide are as following: (1)#H bond acceptors: 3; (2)#H bond donors: 0; (3)#Freely Rotating Bonds: 2; (4)Polar Surface Area: 43.37 Å2.

Preparation and uses of Cobalt(III) oxide: It can be obtained by iglossing cobalt carbonate in the electric stove for 4-5 hours with the temperature of 350-370 °C. And the reaction should isolate from the air. In addition, it is a kind of inorganics, and can be used as oxidant and catalyst. Besides, it can also be used as paint, glaze and magnetic material.

You should be cautious while dealing with this chemical. It irritates eyes, respiratory system and skin, and may cause sensitization by skin contact. Besides, it has limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect. Therefore, you had better take the following instructions: Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection, and in case of contacting with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.

You can still convert the following datas into molecular structure:
(1)SMILES: O=[Co]O[Co]=O
(2)InChI: InChI=1/2Co.3O/rCo2O3/c3-1-5-2-4
(3)InChIKey: UPWOEMHINGJHOB-KJUIFRIVAX
