This catalyzes endonucleolytic cleavage of DNA yielding 5'-phosphodi- and oligonucleotide end-products. The enzyme has a preference for double-stranded DNA. This chemical is stable at common pressure and temperature, and it should be sealed and stored in a ventilated and dry place. Moreover, it should be protected from heat and moisture. It is used in biochemical research, and it is used as an expectorant in clinical, also it can be used for abscess, hematoma and intrathecal injection meningitis.

Preparation: with bovine pancreatic as raw materials, the product can be prepared by extraction with dilluted sulfuric acid, and then fractional precipitation by ammonium sulfate and ethanol.
