Properties:

Long, yellowish, iridescent needles. Mp 191C, bp 434C. Solutions have a violet-blue fluorescence. Soluble in alcohol; very slightly soluble in water.

Derivation:

By heating p-toluidine and primuline base with sulfur and separation from the primuline base by distillation in vacuo.

Use:

Dyestuffs, intermediate.
