    A synthetic dye containing reactive groups capable of forming covalent linkages with certain portions of the molecules of natural or synthetic fibers, e.g., covalently bound azo dye on cellulose. Such dyes were not produced until 1953, when cholortriazinyl dyes were introduced. Since then, hundreds of fiber-reactive dyes for cellulose have been patented.
