(1865–1940). An English chemist who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1929 along with Hans von-Euler-Chelpin. He discovered fermentation enzymes and demonstrated the structure of zymase. His fermentation work proved how inorganic phosphates speeded the process. Born in England, he received his doctorate in Germany.
