Any of several synthetic antibacterial drugs used to treat mammary gland infections in cows and to inhibit disease in swine, chickens, etc. Among them are nitrofurazone, furazolidone, nihydrazone, and furaltadone. All of the latter have been found to cause cancer in laboratory animals, and their use has been discontinued.See Furazolidone.
