Properties:
Red, prismatic crystals. Mp 135–137C (decomposes) with preliminary softening. The salt is stable in the dry state and can be used in glacial acetic acid, ethanol and related solvents. This compound has 45–50% available bromine.
Use:
Brominating phenols and addition to double bonds; mono- and polybromination of ketones, including aliphatic, alicyclic, steroid, and amino carbonyls. Micro or semimicro quantitative analysis.
