Flucloxacillin (5250-39-5) is used to treat infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria. It is also available under a variety of trade names including Floxapen (Beecham, now GSK) and Flopen (CSL).
Flucloxacillin (5250-39-5) is a narrow spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic of the penicillin class, and also can be called Fluorochloroxacillin ; Flucloxacilina ; (2S,5R,6R)-6-({[3-(2-Chloro-6-fluorophenyl)-5-methyl-1,2-oxazol-4-yl]carbonyl}amino)-3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-4-thia-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]heptane-2-carboxylic acid ;and 4-Thia-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]heptane-2-carboxylic acid, 6-[[[3-(2-chloro-6-fluorophenyl)-5-methyl-4-isoxazolyl]carbonyl]amino]-3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-, (2S,5R,6R)- .Unlike other penicillins, it has activity against beta-lactamase-producing organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus as it is beta-lactamase stable. However, it is ineffective against MRSA. It is very similar to dicloxacillin and these two agents are considered interchangeable.
