water-soluble statistical glycopolymers and homoglycopolymer
as a function of lectin concentration are performed at two polymer
concentrations, 0.0065 and 0.15 mg/mL. Fig. 12 depicts both
behaviors of homoglycopolymer and statistical glycopolymers
with HEAGl compositions of 0.9, 0.7 and 0.5. The maximum absor-
bance value for all glycopolymers increases with lectin concentra-
tion does, being the interaction elevated when the glycopolymer
concentration is higher. This demeanor which is quite similar in
all the glycopolymers, although lower absorbance is observed as
glycopolymer composition in the copolymer decreases. Therefore,
the carbohydrate groups diminishment in the statistical glycopoly-
mer against the amount of these groups in the homoglycopolymer
is, to some extent, compensated by the hydrophobic interactions
which enhance the lectin–carbohydrate interaction [45].

The ability to recognize specific lectins was analyzed for all the
water-soluble glycopolymers using RCA120 lectin, which only inter-
acts with galactopyranoside residues. There is not carbohydrate–
lectin interaction due to the glucoside glycopolymers structure.

Novel amphiphilic statistical glycopolymers are synthesized by
conventional radical polymerization. Their copolymerization ki-
netic behavior as well as the cumulative feed and copolymer molar
fraction as a function of conversion are analyzed by in situ moni-
toring 1H NMR spectroscopy. The HEAGl-MMA system is well de-
scribed by the Mayo–Lewis terminal model and the monomer
reactivity ratios calculated by the Kelen–Tüdös extended equation.
The thermal properties such as their glass transition and thermal
stability temperatures are established to be dependent on the car-
bohydrate composition. The glass transition temperature is de-
creased as MMA comonomer is introduced in the copolymeric
system, although the difference between homopolymers is not
large. The thermal stability is enhanced by the presence of HEAGl
units in the statistical glycopolymer, although the carbohydrate
pendant groups are the weakness component. The carbohydrate–
lectin interaction of all water-soluble glycopolymers is studied,
showing a strong aggregation between them.
