Uses
Iodic acide (7782-68-5) is used as a strong acid in analytical chemistry. It may be used to standardize solutions of both weak and strong bases, with methyl red or methyl orange as the indicator. In salt industry, It also can be used to synthesize Sodium iodate or Potassium iodate for increasing iodine content of salt.
Production
Iodic acide (7782-68-5) can be produced by oxidizing I2 with chlorine in an aqueous solution.
Toxicity Data With Reference
Iodic acide (7782-68-5) is corrosive ,it may cause burns to mouth and stomach if swallowed. Eye, skin and respiratory irritant.
Safety Profile
A powerful oxidizer. Probably a severe eye, skin and mucous membrane irritant. Dangerous reactions with nonmetals, e.g., boron (vigorous reaction); charcoal; phosphorus; sulfur (ignition on heating). Incompatible with nonmetals; phosphonium iodide. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of I−. See also IODINE.
