Preparation of Octane: this chemical can be prepared by 1-Iodo-octane. This reaction needs reagents Fe(CO)5, Me4NCl and solvent methanol. The reaction time is 3 hours. The yield is 68 %.

Octane can be prepared by 1-Iodo-octane.

Uses of Octane: (1) it is used as solvent gasoline, printing ink solvents and diluent; (2) it is used to produce other chemicals. For example, it can produce pentylium, hexylium, octane radical cation. The reaction occurs with reagent O2(1+) at temperature of 26.9 °C. The yield is 92 %.
