Polyvinylpyrrolidone Specification

Polyvinylpyrrolidon, with CAS number of 9003-39-8, is a kind of white powder. It can be called Povidone; PVP 3000; N-Vinylpyrrolidone polymer; N-Vinylbutyrolactam polymer; N-Vinylpyrrolidone homopolymer; N-Vinyl-2-pyrrolidone polymer and N-Vinyl-2-pyrrolidinone homopolymer. Polyvinylpyrrolidone should be stored in shady and cool warehouse and mainly used as pharmaceutical Intermediates.

Physical properties about Polyvinylpyrrolidon are: (1)ACD/LogP: 0.37; (2)ACD/LogD (pH 5.5): 0.37; (3)ACD/LogD (pH 7.4): 0.37; (4)ACD/BCF (pH 5.5): 1.13; (5)ACD/BCF (pH 7.4): 1.13; (6)ACD/KOC (pH 5.5): 37.87; (7)ACD/KOC (pH 7.4): 37.87; (8)#H bond acceptors: 2; (9)#Freely Rotating Bonds: 1; (10)Index of Refraction: 1.593 ; (11)Molar Refractivity: 32.924 cm3; (12)Molar Volume: 97.135 cm3; (13)Polarizability: 13.052 10-24cm3; (14)Surface Tension: 52.3899993896484 dyne/cm; (15)Density: 1.144 g/cm3; (16)Flash Point: 93.889 °C; (17)Enthalpy of Vaporization: 45.393 kJ/mol; (18)Boiling Point: 217.551 °C at 760 mmHg; (19)Vapour Pressure: 0.131999999284744 mmHg at 25°C

Uses of Polyvinylpyrrolidon: It is used as a binder in many pharmaceutical tablets; it simply passes through the body when taken orally. PVP is also used in many technical applications: as an adhesive in glue stick and hot-melt adhesives. Except, It is also used in the wine industry as a fining agent for white wine or some beers. Other references state that polyvinyl pyrrolidone and its derivatives are fully from mineral synthetic origin. Therefore, its use in the production should not be a problem for vegans.
