Potassium hydrogen diiodate Specification

The CAS registry number of Iodic acid (HIO3),potassium salt (2:1) is 13455-24-8. Its EINECS registry number is 236-650-9. The IUPAC name is potassium iodic acid iodate. In addition, the molecular formula is HIO3.1/2K and the molecular weight is 390.91. What's more, it is a kind of white powder and belongs to the class of Inorganics. And it is soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol. Besides, it should be stored in sealed container, and put in a cool and dry place.

Physical properties about this chemical are: (1)#H bond acceptors: 3; (2)#H bond donors: 1; (3)Polar Surface Area: 43.37 Å2; (4)H-Bond Acceptor: 6; (5)Exact Mass: 389.749956; (6)MonoIsotopic Mass: 389.749956; (7)Topological Polar Surface Area: 112; (8)Heavy Atom Count: 9; (9)Complexity: 96; (10)Covalently-Bonded Unit Count: 3.

Preparation and uses of Iodic acid (HIO3),potassium salt (2:1): it can be prepared by iodine and potassium chlorooate. The pH value of the reaction solution is 1-2. And the reaction temperature should be controlled at 80-90 °C by stirring. Then by means of cooling, filtration and drying you can get the desired product. The equation is as follows: 6I2 + 11KClO3 + 3H2O → 6KH(IO3)2 + 3Cl2 + 5KCl. And it can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of potassium iodooate. Moreover, it can be used as analysis reagent.
