Method One: It is obtained from potassium hydroxide and iodine direct reaction.
Method Two: In dilute nitric acid medium, it can be obtained from direct oxidation of potassium chlorate and iodine.

It is Sensitive. But it should avoid include organics, combustibles, phosphorus, sulfur, carbon, powdered metals, cyanides, hydrides, strong reducing agents, aluminium, peroxides. It will explode when mixed with combustible material. Potassium iodate (CAS NO.7758-05-6) can be used as livestock feed additives, medicinal iodizedcompound, wheat flour finishingagent and dough modifier. Secondly it is also used as analytical reagent, oxidizer and redoxtitrant.
