Preparation of Vinylidene chloride: it is prepared by dehydrochlorination of 1,1,2-trichloroethane, which in the production of vinyl chloride and chlorine with catalyst iron at 80-90 °C.

(2) Cl2CHCH2Cl + NaOH → Cl2C=CH2 + NaCl + H2O

Uses of Vinylidene chloride: it is used to produce 3,3-dichloro-1-phenyl-propenone by reaction with benzoyl chloride. The reaction occurs with reagent AlCl3 and the yield is about 67%.
