The mixt. was polymd. at 270° under 75 psig of N to give poly(ethylene terephthalate) [25038-59-9] with m.p. 254°, diethylene glycol content 1.47%, and intrinsic viscosity 0.95 dL/g, compared with 241°, 4.82%, and 0.96 dL/g, resp., for a similar polymer prepd. without the use of I. Thus, terephthalic acid 1800, ethylene glycol 1345, 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (I) [100-26-5] 9, and Sb(OAc)3 1.5 g were charged at 95° to a 1 gal stainless steel autoclave with a double spiral agitator turning at 30 rpm.

N-oxides at 0.015-0.02%. Unpreserved meal lost 76.2% of its carotenes, and meal preserved with Ethoxyquin lost 23%. Isocinchomeronic acid [100-26-5] was similar to Ethoxyquin in its preservative effect.
