Bi2O3 is added in amts. of 2, 5, 15, 30, and 50% and the obtained samples are characterized by emission spectroscopy. Bi2O3 is obtained by dispersing bismuth nitrate i.m. distd. water to obtain a bismuth sol which is converted into a xerogel at 373 K, followed by heating at 573, 773, and 1073 K for 2 h in air. The sensitive element of the sensor is manufd. by heating at 1073 K for 1 h. The properties of the sensor are studied using synthetic air contg. 1 vol.% CO, or 1 vol.% CH4, and a generator gas mixt. .
