Magnetite [1309-38-2], hematite [1317-60-8], metallic Pb, complex spinels, 2CaO.PbO.3SiO2 [18839-68-4], 3PbO.3SiO2 [10099-76-0], and PbO.Fe2O3 [12186-59-3] were identified in the sintered briquets. The silicate binding matrix of the agglomerates was mainly wollastonite [13983-17-0].

DOCUMENT TYPE: Report CA Section: 54 (Extractive Metallurgy) The redn. kinetics was studied for Pb silicate glasses at 600-800° with a combined reducing agent of CO and graphite to simulate the conditions of Pb smelting in a shaft furnace. Expts. were performed with 2PbO.SiO2 (I) [13566-17-1] and PbO.SiO2 (II) [10099-76-0] in graphite crucibles in a CO flow of 6 L/h. The overall redn. degree (x) was 70.5 and 66.4% for I and II, resp. at 700° after 10 min redn. time (t). A linear function log (1/1-x) vs. t corresponding to a 1st-order reaction was established for the initial redn. period (1-5 min). The redn. activation energies at 600-700° and x = 20% were 78.5 and 123 kJ/mol for I and II, resp.
