The refractory powder is a mixt. of 70-99 ZrO2.SiO2 (II) [10101-52-7] and 1-30% cordierite (III) [12182-53-5]. Thus, a slip of II 95, III 5, I 10, and water 35 parts was cast to a pipe and heated at 1380.degree.. Molten Al was cast around the refractory pipe to obtain a muffler.
