DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 41 (Leather and Related Materials) The addn. of £1.35% (as Cr2O3 on wt. of solids in ext.) chrome alum (I) [10141-00-1] to a tanning soln. contg. spruce exts. decreased the formation of ppt. and thus facilitated tanning. The method of I introduction into the spruce exts. had no effect on the ppt. formation, but a temp. increase reduced the pptn. A statistical evaluation of I concn.-temp. relations showed that the concn. of tanning substances in the spruce exts. reached a max. value when ~0.5% I was added. The I-contg. spruce exts. could be used for pretreating leather before chrome tanning.

Acridine Orange and toluidine blue were effective on vaccinia virus.
