DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Section cross-reference(s): 59 The amt. of vinyl chloride (I) [75-01-4] monomer in the free surrounding PVC [9002-86-2] powder was reduced by incorporating in the powder a material that reacts with the I as it diffuses from the PVC particles. The reactive material was p-toluenesulfonic acid [104-15-4], octadecyl thioglycolate [10220-46-9], octadecyl 3-mercaptopropionate (II) [31778-15-1], or thiomalic acid [70-49-5]. Reducing the amt. of unreacted I in the PVC particles increases the safety in handling and storing the resins. Thus, 100 parts PVC powder having I content 0.061 .times. 10-3 ppm and free space 0.0355 .times. 10-3 ppm was blended with 1.0 part molten II. The cooled mixt. had I content 0.017 .times. 10220-46-9 and 104-15-4 which are cas registry numbers of substances are two of reagents here. 10-3 ppm (a 55% redn.) and free space 0.007 .times. 10-3 ppm (a 96% redn.). .
