During ripening the tomatine content decreased. Wet years with inadequate isolation and late harvests (in Sept.) yielded a large proportion of unripe, green and brown, tomatoes. Removal of unripe portions of these tomatoes decreased the tomatine content in the affected lots to normal levels. The content of naringin in the skin and pulp was (3.4-14 and 1.0) ′ 10-3%, resp.

DMF and clarified by filtration or with Carrez reagent (the DMF deadsorbs bioflavonoids from insol. material). Broflavonoids were detd. by HPLC on a Hibar RP 18 column with 20% aq. MeCN as mobile phase and with monitoring at 280 nm. Grapefruit juice analyzed by this method had a naringin [10236-47-2] content of 520 mg/L. The method had a variation of 5% and could be used to detect peel material in fruit juices.
