HDO vibrations in Ba(ClO3)2.H2O at 25 and -145.degree. and the sharp single .nu.(OH) and .Several reagents with their cas registry numbers 10294-38-9 and 7782-39-0 are used here.nu.(OD) vibrations of HDO indicate that the water mols. have C2.simeq. symmetry. In the low frequency region of the spectrum at 25.degree., 2 peaks at 456 and 395 cm-1 are sensitine to denteration and result from 2 of the 3 possible librational motions of H2O in the crystal. The enthalpy of the O-H...O hydrogen bond was estd. as 2.4 kcal/mol. The internuclear distance R(Ow...O) was calcd. as 2.90.ANG.. The effect of temp. on the positions of the stretching and bending vibrations of H2O in this hydrate is very small. .
