Thus, octamethyltetrasiloxane [1000-05-1] 2000, hexamethyldisiloxane [107-46-0] 190, and an acid-treated clay (Filtrol No. 20) 65 parts were mixed and heated to 180.degree. over a 5-h period. Heating at 180.degree. was continued for 2 h, the oil was cooled to 80.degree., and 80 g Celite 545 was added. The mixt. was stirred, filtered, and stripped at 280.degree. and 1 mm to give a dimethylpolysiloxane fluid of 100 cSt viscosity at 25.degree.. To 92 parts of the fluid were added nonaethylene glycol dibutyl ether [63071-98-7] 8 dioctyl azelate [103-24-2] 2, zinc naphthenate 0.2, and an antioxidant 2 parts. Tests showed that the fluid compn. was superior for use as a brake fluid with respect to the following properties: flash point, high-temp. stability, corrosion resistance, water tolerance, rubber swelling, and fluidity and appearance at low temps.
