Preparation of Lithium iodide (LiI): it can be prepared by iodine and lithium hydro. Add iodine and lithium hydro into neck flask, then add ethyl ether into the mixture. The reaction will constantly release hydrogen. And the reaction should reflux for 1 hour. Then after a series of filtration, vacuum distillation and drying you can get the desired product. The equation is as follows: 2LiH + I2 → 2Li + H2. And it can be used in decomposition of methyl ester and used to synthetize α-ynone.
