Fe in wine according to the method of Schilt and Taylor (1970), with the exceptions of extg. with EtOAc instead of isoamyl alc. and asking with H2O2 instead of by heat alone. The method gives results comparable to other colorimetric methods. The Cu levels of wine do not interfere. The method is 1.7 times more sensitive than the std. o-phenanthroline method. However, it is not recommended because it requires the extn. step, and the greater sensitivity is of no consequence with respect to the Fe levels found in wine.

NaHSO3 soln., rinsed, sensitized in an aq. soln. of SnCl2 and HCl, rinsed, immersed in an aq. soln. of PdCl2 and HCl, rinsed, and coated with Cu in a bath at pH 12.3 and 70° contg. CuSO4.5H2O 10, EDTA [60-00-4] 32, HCHO 1.5 g/L, and 3-(2-pyridyl)-5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazine [1046-56-6] 30 mg/L. The coating rate was 3.7 m/h, and the Cu coating had an elongation of 3.5% and tensile strength of 33 kg/mm2. .
