DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 22 (Physical Organic Chemistry) A study of the reaction of cis-1,2-(I), trans-1,2-(II), cis-1,4-, and trans-1,4-dichlorocyclohexane with SbCl5 showed that I decompd. without isomerization, whereas the other 3 compds. isomerized, with II giving the lowest yields of products. The distribution of products (cis-1,3-, trans-1,3-, cis-1,4-, and trans-1,4-dichlorocyclohexane) was the same for all reactants and reaction times. The difference in behavior of reactants was discussed in terms of their conformations, and a mechanism involving a carbonium ion with an SbCl6- counterion as intermediate was suggested. .
