DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) The effect of catalyst, temp. 94-36-0 and 78-67-1 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here., and solvent on polymn. of styrene and of styrene with Bu methacrylate to form monodisperse polymer microspheres was studied. The ultimate particle size correlated well with the polarity of the starting mixt. Increased Bz2O2 [94-36-0] catalyst concns. resulted in larger particles of lower mol. wt. The particle size of the polymer increased with increasing polymn. temp. An unusual bimodal mol. wt. distribution was obsd. with lauroyl peroxide [105-74-8] catalyst and a unimodal distribution was obtained with AIBN [78-67-1]. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 59 (Air Pollution and Industrial Hygiene) Section cross-reference(s): 79 To 3.5 mL of a CHCl3 soln. of lauroyl peroxide (I) [105-74-8] was added 1 ml freshly prepd. soln. o-toluidine (1 gm o-toluidine in 20 ml AcOH and dild. to 100 mL with EtOH), the mixt. was heated 30 min at 60.degree. and cooled rapidly in cold water to stop further reaction, and the optical density was measured at 400 nm in a 10 mm cell. The conditions for the use of benzene are essentially the same as CHCl3. The sensitivity of the reaction was 10 .mu.g in 3.5 mL test soln. A std. curve was prepd. for the range 10-100 .mu.g in either CHCl3 or benzene. The direct optical method gave results within a 2-9% error range.
