The pDCB-pDBB system exhibits 2 demixings. The 1st demixing occurs at high temp. for pDCB-rich solid solns. due to an a-b transition. The demixing involves the existence of a very narrow eutectic. The 2nd, more important demixing affects a-solid solns.: the miscibility gap extends from 39 to 72% pDBB at 293 K; the max. crit. point occurs at ~330 K for 55% pDBB. Nevertheless, metastable solid solns. (from 39 to 46 or from 65 to 72% pDBB) and unstable solid solns. (from 46 to 65% pDBB) can be obtained at 293 K by melting and quenching. Crystallog. and energetic characteristics of these solns. were detd. and are discussed in terms of mol. interactions. The interest of these materials for heat storage is indicated.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) 1,4-Dibromobenzene (I) [106-37-6] and 1,2,4-tribromobenzene (II) [615-54-3] were administered p.o. to male rats for 45 and 90 days, with or without a 30-day recovery period. After 45 or 90 days of administration, both I (10 and 20 mg/kg) and II (2.5, 5, and 10 mg/kg) increased liver to body wt. ratios, cytochrome P-450 [9035-51-2] content, EPN detoxification, and azoreductase [9029-31-6] activity. In addn., III, which was the more potent inducer, increased NADPH-cytochrome c reductase [9023-03-4] activity and benzpyrene hydroxylase [9037-52-9] activity. Glucuronyltransferase [37329-64-9] activity was not increased by either compd. These effects were not found following the 30-day recovery period. Apparently, both of these simple brominated benzenes can induce the metab. of xenobiotics but the effects are not prolonged following the cessation of administration of the compds.
