This compd. was treated at room temp. in the presence of H2SO4 with 1,3-divinyl-1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane [2627-95-4] to give 1-methacryloyloxypropyl-3-vinyl-1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane [94356-52-2], which was treated with 1-methoxyethoxyethoxyethoxypropyl-1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane in the presence of hydroquinone, cyclohexane, and chloroplatinic acid to form 1-(g-methacryloyloxypropyl-a,a,g,g-tetramethyldisiloxy)-2-(g'-methoxy ethoxyethoxyethoxypropyl-a',a',g',g'-tetramethyldisiloxy)ethane [94290-77-4]. A polymer [94290-94-5] for soft contact lenses was prepd. from the silane 50, Bu methacrylate (hydrophobic monomer) 20, N-vinylpyrrolidone 5 and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (hydrophilic monomers) 25, and allyl methacrylate 0.5 parts with 2,2'-azobis(2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile) catalyst.
