Med., Stanford Univ., Stanford, CA 94305, USA). Nature (London), 324(6096), 476-8 (English) 1986. CODEN: NATUAS. ISSN: 0028-0836. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) A 49-residue peptide which strongly inhibits glucose-induced insulin release from isolated pancreas was isolated and characterized from porcine pancreas and was named pancreastatin (pig) [106477-83-2]. The complete amino acid sequence was detd. The synthetic fragments pancreastatin-(14-49) (pig) [106494-00-2] and pancreastatin-(33-49) (pig) [106507-61-3] also decreased glucose-induced insulin [9004-10-8] release to about the same extent as pancreastatin itself. Pancreastatin may be important in the regulation of insulin secretion and in the pathogenesis and treatment of diabetes mellitus.
