[I; R1-3 = H, alkyl; R4, R5 = (substituted) alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl] are prepd. by reaction of allylic halides with phosphite esters in the presence of d8 transition metal phosphite complexes. Thus, 0.1 mol allyl bromide and 0.1 mol P(OMe)3 were refluxed for 1.5 h at 70° in the presence of Ni[P(OMe)3]5(BPh4)2 to give 73% O,O-di-Me allylphosphonate. .
