Shoot proliferation was influenced by cytokinin type and concn., light level and explant type. BAP was superior to zeatin [1637-39-4], kinetin [525-79-1] and 2iP [2365-40-4]. Proliferation was better with 10 mM BAP than with 5 or 1 mM BAP, but at 10 mM, shoots were dwarfed. Single nodes and basal mass explants produced significantly more shoots than did shoot-tips. Shoot proliferation was max. at photon flux densities of 75 mmol/m/s. Roots can be readily induced with IBA, but salt concn. and the phys. support on which shoot-tips are grown influence both root initiation and growth. Half-strength salts and 1 mM IBA gave best root initiation. 525-79-1 and 1637-39-4 are just another two chemicals used in this study. With agar, coarse sand, perlite and rotated liq. medium, 90-100% root initiation occurred, but root growth was poor in agar. .

In A. tenuis, the sequence was: kinetin = gibberellic acid = IAA = indolebutyric acid > phloroglucinol > indolepropionic acid > ferulic acid. Of 10 fungicides tested, most potent in both species were thiram [137-26-8], brassicol [82-68-8], blimix [56448-75-0] and sultaf [7704-34-9] (at 1000 ppm). Mycelial growth was relatively less affected by the active agents and fungicides in A. tenuis than in A. solani. There was no correlation between the inhibitory effect of the various agents on PMG secretion and on mycelial growth.Except for chemicals metioned above, 133-32-4 and 830-96-6 are also used. .
