These polymers have ruthenium polybipyridine moieties as the energy trap cores and styrene functionalized coumarin monomers as the light absorbing antenna chromophores. The polymers have been made by reversible addn.-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymn. using di- or hexafunctional ruthenium-contg. RAFT agents. The resulting ruthenium-contg. polymers have narrow mol. wt. distribution (polydispersity < 1.1) and exhibit energy transfer efficiencies of up to 60% between the coumarin donor dyes and the ruthenium acceptor chromophores. .

The yield increases and the reaction conditions become genial in contrast to those of other methods. The mol. structure of the final product was confirmed by means of elemental anal., IR, 1H NMR and MS spectra.Except for chemicals metioned above, 71071-46-0 and 109073-77-0 are also used. .
