- Excess Molar Volumes and Refractive Indexes of Heptanol + Pentane, + Hexane, + Heptane, + Octane, and + 2,2,4-Trimethylpentane. Nath, Jagan; Pandey, Jai Gopal (Chemistry Department, Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur 273009, India). Journal of Chemical and Engineering Data, 42(3), 514-516 (English) 1997 American Chemical Society. CODEN: JCEAAX. ISSN: 0021-9568. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 65 (General Physical Chemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 68, 73 Excess molar volumes, V, have been measured using a direct dilatometric technique for binary mixts. of heptanol (n-C7H15OH) + hexane (n-C6H14), + heptane (n-C7H16), + octane (n-C8H18), and + 2,2,4-trimethylpentane (2,2,4-TMP) at 308.15 K and for n-C7H15OH + pentane (n-C5H12) at 298.15 K. The refractive indexes, nD, have been measured for these mixts. at 303.15 K. V has been found to be neg. throughout the entire range of compn. for xn-C7H15OH + (1-x)n-C5H12 and xn-C7H15OH + (1-x)n-C6H14. V has been found to be pos. at lower values of x and neg. at higher values of x for xn-C7H15OH + (1-x)2,2,4-TMP, xn-C7H15OH + (1-x)n-C7H16, and xn-C7H15OH + (1-x)n-C8H18, with the inversion of sign from pos. to neg. values of V occurring at x ~ 0.06, x ~ 0.20, and x ~ 0.45 resp. for these mixts. Values of V and nD for the various mixts. of n-C7H15OH have been fitted in smoothing equations.

- Aromatic and other [hexane] contents in automobile gasoline in Japan. Ikeda, Masayuki; Kumai, Miho; Watanabe, Takao; Fujita, Hiroyoshi (Sch. Med., Tohoku Univ., Sendai 980, Japan). Ind. Health, 22(4), 235-41 (English) 1984. CODEN: INHEAO. ISSN: 0019-8366. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 51 (Fossil Fuels, Derivatives, and Related Products) Section cross-reference(s): 59 Gasoline samples collected in 14 cities in various parts of Japan were analyzed for arom. hydrocarbons and hexane [110-54-3] on a silicone OV 101 capillary gas chromatog. column. Hexane, and C6H6 [71-43-2], PhMe [108-88-3], PhEt [100-41-4], m- and p-xylenes, and o-xylene [95-47-6] contents were 5.7, 1.4, 8.1, 1.7, 6.5, and 2.2 vol.%, resp. There was no remarkable variation in compn. between the samples from different cities or the samples of different brands. Health and safety were alluded to.
