DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) A precolumn enhancement reaction technique for the reversed-phase high-performance liq. chromatog. anal. of 2-chloroethyl Et sulfide (I) [693-07-2] and its major decompn. by-products Et 2-hydroxyethyl sulfide (II) [110-77-0] and ethylvinyl sulfide (III) [627-50-9] were described. The compds. were derivatized with chloramine B [127-52-6] on a microscale in aq. alc. to form novel UV absorbing phenylsulfonylsulfilimines (IV). Complete sepn. of IV is achieved in 15 min. The reactions are reproducible and the detector response is linear for I, II, and III at 1.0-20.2 mg/mL. The overall efficiency of the derivation reaction for I-III is 85-99% by comparison with standardized materials. The detection limits for I, II, and III are 10, 12, and 21 ng, resp. .
