- Evaluation of three antibiotic feed additives on broiler performance
- Evaluation of three antibiotic feed additives on broiler performance. Lambio, A. L.; Arboleda, C. R.; Bravo, M. V. A. (Coll. Agric., Univ. Philippines, College, Philippines). Philipp. Agric., 59(3-4), 51-9 (English) 1975. CODEN: PHAGAU. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Two trials with day-old com. broiler chicks were conducted to compare the effects of feeding diets supplemented with flavomycin [11015-37-5] (1, 2, 4 ppm), zinc bacitracin [1405-89-6] (5 ppm), and oxytetracycline [79-57-2] (10 ppm) on broiler performance. Generally, no consistent differences in broiler performance were obsd. between different antibiotic supplements used in both trials. In trial 1, only the oxytetracycline supplement showed significant improvement of 8th week body wt. The gizzard wt. of birds given a diet with 2 ppm of flavomycin was also significantly (P <0.5) improved compared to the control at 3 weeks old. 79-57-2 and 1405-89-6 are also in the experiment. In trial 2, all the 3 levels of flavomycin supplementation resulted in a significantly higher 8th week body wt. compared to the basal diet, with broilers on the 2 ppm flavomycin as the heaviest. On the other hand, neither of the Zn-bacitracin nor the oxytetracycline supplementation showed significant increase in the 8th week body wt. of broillers compared to the control. Only birds fed flavomycin at the rate of 1 ppm showed significant improvement in feed efficiency at 8 weeks. In addn., the spleen wts. of birds fed 2 ppm of flavomycin were significantly heavier than either of the Zn-bacitracin or the oxytetracycline-fed birds. The sizes and wts. of the other internal organs in all the treatments did not differ significantly from the control in both trials. The general performance of broiller chicks given flavomycin at 2 ppm was best. .
