- Effects of Vitamin K2 on Bone of Ovariectomized Rats and on a Rat Osteoblastic Cell Line. Iwamoto, Ichiro; Kosha, Shoichiro; Fujino, Toshinori; Nagata, Yukihiro ( Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Kagoshima University, Kagoshima, Japan). Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 53(3), 144-148 (English) 2002 S. Karger AG. CODEN: GOBIDS. ISSN: 0378-7346. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) The effects of vitamin K2 on bone mineral d. (BMD) and bone metabolic markers of ovariectomized rats, and those on mRNA expression of osteocalcin and IL-6 on a rat osteoblastic cell line, were investigated. BMD and bone metabolic markers were examd. in ovariectomized rats after 2 mo' treatment with vitamin K2, and mRNA expression of osteocalcin and IL-6 were measured in the cell line after 24-h treatment with vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 attenuated the decline in BMD after ovariectomy in the rats, and suppressed serum deoxypyridinoline levels of the ovariectomized rats. No effect on osteocalcin and IL-6 mRNA expression on the cell line was obsd. In conclusion, vitamin K2 has a bone-protective effect on ovariectomized rats.

- Vitamin K2 improves the hematopoietic supportive functions of bone marrow stromal cells in vitro: a possible mechanism of improvement of cytopenia for refractory anemia in response to vitamin K2 therapy. Miyazawa, Keisuke; Aizawa, Shin (First Dep. Internal Med., Tokyo Med. Univ., Tokyo 160-0023, Japan). Stem Cells and Development, 13(5), 449-451 (English) 2004 Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. CODEN: SCDTAE. ISSN: 1547-3287. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) The effects of vitamin K2 (VK2) on the hematopoietic supportive functions of stromal cells were investigated. Stromal cell lines LP101 and HAS303, which were established from healthy volunteers using a recombinant SV40 adenovirus vector termed ori, were used. Then, CD34+ cells were inoculated onto the stromal cell layer in the presence or absence of VK2. Results showed that VK2 has an effect of improving the supportive function of hematopoiesis on LP101 cells. VK2 did not show any effect on CD34+ cell growth when cultured without a stromal layer. In addn., no further improvement in the hematopoietic supportive function of VK2 was obsd. in HAS303 stroma having a good supportive ability.
