Thus, 1 mol (PrO)4Zr [23519-77-9] in PrOH was treated with 1 mol MeO(CH2CH2O)2H [111-77-3] and 1 mol 2,4-pentanedione [123-54-6]. The mixt. was stripped in vacuo to give 245.7 g Zr(OPr)2[O(CH2CH2O)2Me](acac) (I) [97890-91-0]. I was more active than (iso-PrO)4Ti as a catalyst for esterifying adipic acid with 1,4-butanediol in the prepn. of a polyester [24936-97-8]. A soln. of I was coated on a poly(ethylene terephthalate) film to give a primer increasing adhesion to a nitrocellulose coating.
